Hockey????

I was thinking of starting to play. Outdoor womens hockey. Any tips?? What are the general rules, what equipment do i need etc|||well some tips would be practice a lot you can't get better by not practicing then when your good try to watch some hockey on t.v like actual hockey games then learn moves from them and try to understand the sports as well as possible read some instruction books that teach you to do drills so you can advanced to be a good hockey player this is what i did with my son when he was little now like teenaged but yea try to go to your public library and take out some books on hockey. One book i would to all starters is http://www.booklounge.ca/catalog/display鈥?/a>

This book Helped Russia to become second to Canada in how good the countries plays in the olympics. Once you understand the rules and become a good player you can play shinny with NHL Rules. My friends Refs in shinny sometimes for my son hockey games he usually like to play with the NHL rules that are in todays game. For equipment the simple part namning the equipment you need like a hockey stick shin elbow and elbow guards athletic cup just basic stuff but then it comes to the cost which is difficult for some people these can finance there kids for the equipment. But just go to http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/men鈥?/a> for equipment.|||hey,

well I was wondering if you have heard the new rule where you are allowed to pass to your self in any type of penlty and if you are taking a penilty out side the d you have to pass 5 m before its allowed in :)

my advise is to keep fit (un-like me) haha

|||that depens if youre playing goalie or forward?|||A hockey team has 11 players, including a goalkeepr

Each Player must have an ourdoor stick.

Goalkeeper MUST wear protective pads

If you join a club, they will set standards for what to wear during match days, and you may need a hockey skirt, and rugby top of a particular colour.

The three main positions are Striker, Midfield and Defense, and you can play in a 4 3 3 sweeper formation or a 3 4 3 diamond formation with 4 in the midfield. Other formations are available and will depend on the coach and their style.

The rule book is extensive, but the BASIC rules are as follows :

(1) Only the flat side of the stick can be used to move the ball

(2) ball can be pushed, hit, slapped hit, in such a way that it doesn not cause danger to another player.

(3) Ball should not come into contact with feet or any other part of body, that causes the team to gain advantage. (except from Goalkeeper)

(4) NO offside rule

(5) A tackle can only be made by taking the ball from an opposing player from their right hand side, Stick tackles are not allowed

(6) A player is not allowed to use their body to obstruct a player from passing or playing the ball, unless that player is attempting to tackle (ie, you can't run into players)

(7) A goal can only be scored if the ball is played from within the circle.

(8) If the defending team commit a foul in the circle, a Penalty Corner (Short Corner) is awarded to the attacking team

(9) If the attacking team commits a foul in the circle they are attacking, the defending team take a hit out.

(10) Hit outs are taken when :

(13) Penalty (Short Corners) are taken when

(i) defensive foul in the circle

(ii) Goalkeeper raises ball in such a way that it is dangerous to nearby players

(14) A Penalty stroke is awared when a defending player deliberatly causes a foul that prevents an on target ball from being scored.

(15) A goal is awarded when

(i) The ball is played by any player i THE CIRCLE and the ball crossed the goal line

(ii) The ball defelcts off a defender over the goal line. (own Goal)

(iii) the ball is flicked from the penalty spot when a penalty is awarded.

(16) In the event of a penalty corner, if full time has been reached, the penaly corner is awared and played beyond full time until

(i) a goal is scored

(ii) a foul comitted

(iii) the ball is cleared from the circle

(17) penalty corner rules :

(i) 5 defenders (including keeper) on back line, rest of team beyond half way line

(ii) attacking player stand on edge of circle, one stands on mark on back line.

(iii) On the umpire's hand signal, the player on back line passes to receiver on edge of circle. Receiver MUST bring the ball out of the circle before passing. If ball is played before leaving the circle, the penalty corner ends and a hit out is awarded to defending team.

There are more rules and regs, but thats the basics !!!
